According to a recent Associated Press (AP) article, food and humanitarian aid is not reaching thousands in the Darfur region of Sudan. In recent months, 74 World Food Program (WFP) vehicles have been attacked while more than 12 aid workers have been killed. The WFP is the sole source of food for some 1.8 million people in Darfur.
The AP also reported an increase in violence from the Janjaweed who stole 800 tons of food from a WFP warehouse in the town of Bir Maza. More than 200 United Nations and aid workers have been forced to leave refugee camps and remote outposts. More than 200,000 people have been killed and more than 2.5 million have become refugees in the past three years. Darfur is the worst humanitarian crisis in the world. I urge you to go to the Save Darfur web site @ www.savedarfur.org and sign the petition asking President Bush and the UN Secretary-General to take immediate steps to stop the violence.

Thank you for this very important post. I went to www.savedarfur.org and signed the petition to the President and the UN Secretary. I look forward to future posts on peace and justice.
I heard that George Clooney, Don Cheadle, and some Olympic athletes recently traveled to Darfur. I hope and pray that makes a difference.
It amazes me that our world which has experienced the holocaust so relatively recently in time, can allow such a travesty to happen now. I also believe keeping the powers-that-be aware of our outrage is beginning to be effective.
There is an online campaign to encourage the new United Nations Secretary to be fully engaged in the genocide in Darfur. I urge everyone to visit www.savedarfur.org.
